Modernity has reached our skin. There is a peculiar space on which it is worth reflecting today: it is that which stands between us and ourselves, between the perception of our identity and the way in which it takes shape and projects itself outside». Gabriele Mastrigli Photographer before becoming architect, Cristiano Toraldo di Francia, founder of Superstudio, started working in the early 1960s for fashion magazines, that put him in contact with the storming Milan world of Made in Italy. It is no coincidence that one of the first portraits of Superstudio was shot by his colleague at «Vogue» Ugo Mulas. His interest in fashion and clothes is a theme that if, on the one hand, puts him alongside his colleagues of Archizoom, authors of famous pop and psychedelic outfits, on the other places him in the long tradition of architectural reflection on the principle of re-covering, which, as Adolf Loos noted, «can also be applied to nature. Man is covered with skin, the tree with its bark». Ri-vestire is therefore an ironic autobiography through the images of the Florentine architect and designer, highlighting a profound, constant and unknown aspect, that accompanies his career from the beginning to his most recent projects carried out with his students and with the irreducible freshness of an indomitable experimenter.
